Get Rick Steves on the Phone
It is a little known secret that I met my husband online. Although neither of us was in a relationship at the time, we weren’t out looking for someone and the meeting was just by chance (though I often believe there is no such thing as an accident), and a friendship developed. A ton of people are meeting online these days because their social circles are shrinking as they get busier or the person for them is probably just going home right after work like they are so not running into them.
Information on a website came across my desk today and it made me do a double take. It was a site about about a Russian brides marriage agency and I had thought that the idea of mail order brides had gone by the wayside due to stricter immigration laws and just plain human rights (coercion, etc.)!
The site corrects me, that its not a mail order bride site, but an online community with real Russian women with real feelings who are legitimately looking for partnership as they think men in their country are not up to snuff, or they were at least unable to find a suitable match . It also adds in the fine print that the average Russian woman is marriage minded and looks like a model.
Excuse me??
Who are all those women walking around in the background of the travel shows and documentaries about Russia. Tourists? I’ll have to call Rick Steves up and ask about it.
I wanted to really blast this site. But since I met my husband online, I guess I am a softie for the one man and woman out there who just registered on a total whim and ended up seriously meeting their soulmate and just needs to do some rearranging to be together.
