Nationwide Search: A Home for Sadie
Sadie is a girl that often does not even get a chance at most pounds. Owner turn-ins have no protection if there is no space available. They are not legally required to be held for several days like strays are. If an owner volunteers that the dog ever had any issue, sometimes they will be euthanized immediately. Luckily, the ladies at Heard County Animal Control gave her a chance.
Sadie has a sad story. No one has ever trained Sadie. Dogs aim to please and want to do good, if only someone would take the time and communicate them in a way they understand. No one seems to have ever corrected Sadie, or taught her how to walk nicely on a leash. She is not a mean dog. On the contrary, she likes people very much and is good with kids. She just got lost in the shuffle. When a family has several little dogs and one big dog, the big guy often gets lost in the shuffle in favor of the little ones and is always the one that is gotten rid of, even if they were there first. Sometimes someone with little dogs gets a puppy who they are “surprised they get big,” or more likely they get the little dogs later to satisfy their want for an inside dog or a lap dog. If only they realized if they just took the time to train their larger dog, they would make a wonderful, mannerly dog around the house.
She went after the little chihuahua at the house last night. The chihuahua is okay, but instead of investigating the reason why it happened (I have a small dog and know that they are not reserved from being instigators), they gave loyal Sadie a knee jerk reaction and showed up at the pound with her first thing in the morning. It is the first and only time, it seems, that anything like that had ever happened.
Sadie does growl a little when it comes to other dogs wanting her food, but not to people. A shelter environment is not good for her, and is a shock for any dog, especially in the first 48 hours of being dumped.
She is not the type of dog that should be relegated to only being taken in by a sanctuary. Kaylene at the shelter belives that if only someone would adopt Sadie who was dog experienced, and would teach her what is and what isn’t apropriate meal behavior, she could really blossom. (Or if Sadie is going to be an only dog, those issues won’t come up and won’t be a big deal to you, but should still be addressed).
I am issuing a nationwide search for a home for Sadie. Her “time up” date is Friday, February 15th. She needs to have generated some modest interest by then. An adopter is required to pay an adoption fee which covers apropriate vaccinations, and her spay surgery.
If you can give Sadie a loving home, or if you are a licensed rescue willing to give Sadie a chance, please contact:

UPDATE ON SADIE
2/19 - She is doing just fine being in the same kennel with other dogs at the shelter. No aggression issues. Do not hesitate to adopt her if you have another medium to large dog.

Has Sadie found a home? Has her story ended yet?
I have been doing a pet blog at “For Pets and Pet Lovers” and I would love to do a post right away linking to your post about Sadie and also using the contact information here.
Please email me and let me know if that’s “doable” and not too late?
Thanks for what you’re doing here.

I am adopting Sadie. I am in Denver Colorado. I have other dogs, but they are large dogs. I train them for SAR. She will have the structure and the love she needs to truly thrive. She will also have a job saving lives! Sadie will start her journey home to Colorado on Saturday, march 1. (happy bday to me, it’s my bday that day)
