List of Dogs for Week of April 4th at Heard County AC

Every week has its own rhythm. Some weeks, things fall into place quite serendipitously. Sometimes it seems like it is harder to have faith then other times as the week slowly marches towards Friday once again. This week, I was a little overwhelmed seeing the number of dogs that are at Heard County Control this week. (Good news for the cats! They have all been rescued!) At times like this, it is half thinking methodically, half dumb luck, 80 percent faith and 20 doubt.

Here are the dogs that are in 8 runs at Heard this week. I will update this page with the progress of every dog, so keep checking back.

It seems to be Pregnant Dog Month at Heard. This sweet dog was abandoned in her time of need as her family could not handle pupbirth. Of course, the problem could have avoided by spaying her in the first place. Taking her to the shelter may have solved THEIR problem, but it did not solve hers. In fact, at the moment, it made it a whole lot worse.

She is already producing milk, so it won’t be long now. It is really hard to say what day, what hour, the puppies will come. Hopefully, a rescue can be found before they are born. Although this is one of the cleanest shelters ever, it is still no place to raise a family. With only 8 runs, it will also make things dangerously crowded for others.

RESCUE PENDING This friendly girl is just “guessed” to be a shepherd/Rottweiler mix because of her coloring. But I have seen hounds have the black and tan like that too.
Her story is very similar to the dog above. Only this time, the family merely saw her “lock” with another dog so she is only about 2 weeks pregnant if it took. She needs to be adopted or rescued so she can be spayed right away while there is still the window of opportunity to do so.

ID number 18608

BELOW: Gorgeous American Staffordshire Terrier with an eye catching brindle coat! She has been a very mannerly lady at the shelter. She is good with children, so if you like Bully Breeds and need one that is reliable with kids, she is your girl! KAYLENE IS BEGGING FOR THIS DOG”S LIFE

Friendly, 7 months old Redbone Coonhound Mix.

He is a carryover from last week because he had a rescue hold, but it fell through. THIS GUY HAS A RESCUE _ JUST HAVE TO FINALIZE THINGS TOMORROW>

Hoping to get things together this week!

He is a strapping young man at 55 lbs, and at an age where he is going to have some more growing to do. He is very handsome, as you can see, and has that adorable hound “yodel.”

Hounds are loyal companions.

I know, I have two little hounds myself!

YOUNG girl, older puppy. Probably in that “teenager” seven month to one year old age range.

Personality: Active, sweet, and “busy.” She would make a great playmate. If you are looking for a dog to train for flyball, or to brush up on her leash training and go hiking with, she would be game!

You cannot tell this from the photo, but her snout is longer like a retriever. It is not “short and square” like it appears. She just couldn’t keep her nose out of the camera lens. She likes attention!

Right now she is a medium sized dog. She will probably fill out a little bit more. ID 18408

Basset Hound boy. His hold time was not up last Friday, so he was safe. He looks well cared for, and was turned in as a “stray” by a family who seemed to know a little too much about him for that to be the true story. He is great with kids, but chases cats. THIS GUY HAS AN INTERESTED RESCUE _ JUST TRYING TO FINALIZE DETAILS

Young Golden Retriever Mix baby (two views but only one pup). Some people are leery about taking a baby from a shelter because of the parvo risk. Heard has never had a parvo outbreak in memory. They have a small shelter so have a little bit better control over a situation. He is living proof that adorable puppies can be found at shelters.

AT RIGHT: CUTE Border Collie Mix girl pup, and at far right, Brittany Spaniel mix pup. There are leads on the Brittany – no leads for the others quite yet. There is a lead for the golden pup – YAY IT LOOKS LIKE IT WILL WORK!!! concentrate on the others

Beautiful mother shepherd mix. Special needs. Her legs shake and her back end collapses. She came in with her 4 8-12 week old babies

Sweetness Plus! This puppy is very very sweet. She probably will get some extra time because of when she came in, but adding her because she might catch someone’s eye!!

If you are interested in adopting one of these sweethearts, or are a rescue that can help one or more, please contact Kaylene at the shelter right away:

Heard County Animal Control Center
11818 Ga Hwy 100
Franklin, GA 30217
Phone: 706-675-3570

If you cannot do either, contact your favorite rescue and alert them or, better yet, offer to foster if they do not have room.

  1. Oh that poor mama dog.

May I add another urgent to your list? This dog is also in Georgia and in a kill shelter. It’s a Husky so especially close to my heart.

I posted that dog a few places.

At the last minute, the last two dogs were adoption pending. I have to find out in the morning what the next step for everybody is.

  3. Can anyone tell me the status of the black/tan rottie/shep mix? If she is still available I would be happy to try to help in any way possible. She has the same sweet face as my Doberman. Please let me know

    Hi Nicole,
She is safe. A rescue had an interest in that sweet young lady. :)
