Morning “PUP”-date on Sylvia and Puppies
As of this morning, $55 of the $100 was raised for Sylvia, shown at left. More than halfway there. Funds are needed for her vet care, so that she may be cleared to travel to rescue, where a new home may already be waiting. Read more about this lovely Redbone Coonhound HERE. She deserves a chance to be with a loving family for the New Year.
In other news, Saving Shelter Pets is also raising money for the class of January 2009 Puppy Promises Pups. Puppy Season does not seem to have stopped for the winter in Georgia. The warm temperatures, and the fact that some folks don’t get the message on spaying and neutering has created a bumper crop of babies. In some ways, it is actually GOOD that SSP has so many to help, as it means the owners are not dumping these kids at the shelter. SSP intercepts them before they surrender a litter of puppies to the shelter, and provides them with the alternative, that if they quarantine the pups at home for two more weeks, SSP will provide their shots, spay the adult dogs and cats in the house, and then place the pups in a reputable rescue.
Some may say: why are you taking the puppies away form a shelter so the public can adopt them? A county or city pound is no place for a puppy. They often don’t make it out alive because they contract one of the illnesses that is going around, may not thrive, and also only have a few days to get adopted like the other dogs and cats there. A pound is not an “adoption center.”
Sometimes, people find that their heartstrings are tugged on more by dogs on deathrow so are not as apt to give to help the puppies, but these babies would be the shelter dogs of the near future if SSP did not intervene, not to mention they would probably have litters of their own that may be also. Look at the mom dog at right. Her adorable puppies were born outside. With funding by kind people like you, the puppies could be alleviated of their situation, and mom could be spayed. This will keep her from having another litter that her people can’t take care of, keep stray dogs out of the yard who could harm her, and with the number of dogs at the house under control, could potential improve the living conditions for mom. SSP will always help a mother dog if she should become homeless as well. In fact, SSP believes that no dog should live life on a chain and if the pwners are willing to sign her over, SSP will take mom too and place her in rescue
Each pup only costs $50.00 to sponsor. That includes shots, transport to rescue, and spaying the adult dogs and cats in the house. One house has NINE and one has FIVE to spay and neuter. Can you IMAGINE if they all had litters??? That is why this is critical. It is also quite a bargain towards saving a life.
