All Funds Raised! 50 Puppies are Going Home
Great News! All funds have been raised for the “Class of January 2008″ Puppy Promises Pups. There were FIFTY puppies enrolled in Saving Shelter Pets, Inc.’s Puppy Promises program this time out. They have been intercepted before being surrendered to the shelter, given proper shots, sent home for two weeks of quarantine and sent on their way to rescues and waiting families. In addition, their mother is getting spayed, to have no more accidental litters. All of the other pets in the house, cats and dogs, will also be spayed or neutered. SSP kept finding that they would have litters enrolled from the same household, but a different mother dog, as the original mom had been spayed. To stop the cycle, SSP spays or neuters ALL the cats and dogs so the cycle ends.
Every time puppies go on to rescue, it just seems that even more come out of the woodwork. Maybe someday people will get the message. Many of these mother dogs are outside or chained, where they have no protection from attracting other dogs to the property when they go into heat, or from the elements. If the owners decide that she will never have shelter or no longer want to care for her, SSP has helped the mother dogs in the past too and has found a spot in rescue where they can get a family that will love and care for them.
