How Long Can I Stay Up? Pledge Now!
There are always golf tournaments for charity, and other various sporting events. Remember “Jump Rope for Heart?” Whatever happened to that? I think when jump roping was not the big playground craze anymore it dwindled, or maybe it is still around but since I have been off the playground for awhile, maybe I just hadn’t noticed. Occasionally a new sport or sporting item comes out that it makes me wonder if it it will stick around. Remember the hackey sack? (Did I even spell that right.)
The next “new thing” is Wakeboarding. It is like skateboarding on water. The popular Hyperlite Wakeboards look like an extra wide skateboard, but operate like you are skiing on one ski. To me, it is kind of like snowboarding on water, but with a smaller board still. You have the ability for a greater latitude for tricks and movement, where you are more limited on skis. Perhaps this will attract daredevils who perform feats of skill and raise money for charity doing it. There are also variatons on wakeboards which are called wakeskates. The difference is not just the size. When using a wakeboard, you are bound to it similar to water or snow skiing. With wakeskates, you have a grip board on the top service, making it much more challenging, but allowing a wider range of movement and freedom.
As for me, I will not be competing in any charity wakeboard or wakeskate competition unless it was being hosted by the Gong Show, as I have the worst sense of balance ever. I am still working on walking around during the day with tennis shoes on without falling or stumbling. Would people “pledge” based on the number of seconds I could stay up?
