Home Improvement Month

Home improvement month has been well underway.  No, there is no designated holiday; it is just merely home improvement month around the Hounds Good headquarters. First, there was the very exciting day when the new toilet was installed. It had a water saving mechanism where the water would collect in sort of a bucket in the tank, and then dump out. My dad was so impressed with this, that he had to specifically take my brother-in-law upstairs, took off the tank lid and had to show him what happened. I could hear one of them say, “Let’s see it again. That time, it wasn’t a full flush!” I thought it was going to turn into that commercial where the guy flushes all sorts of crazy things down the toilet so he could have that female plumber come over again. Except, of course, nothing was actually being flushed down.  Yes, my extended family is easily entertained.

Now, I have to lift the dogs from the kitchen, over the new hallway carpet, and into the other room, so they don’t get their muddy little feeties on it. Of course, in time, everyone will be walking on it. For now, it so new and novel. Like a fragile egg. Even though it is Wear Dated.

The next project is to add new shutters.  The shutters aren’t functional.   The current ones are just screwed down, and they are a durable vinyl.  That, I would imagine, make the decision an easier process.  You can, of course, buy hardware to make them swing, but they way they are on the house it just wouldn’t serve.  Do you think that I should suggest the lovely merlot color, at left, that I spotted on LarsonShutter.com.  Imagine them on a light blue colonial with white trim.

No, I didn’t think so.

I will say that some of the shutters are pretty high up.   The second story windows require a climb up on the roof and swinging yourself over or a professional.  With my track record with ladders, I think I best leave it to professionals!
