The Perfect Dog Walking Jacket

northface.jpgIt’s hot as all get out here, but yesterday, I bought a pair of winter boots.   I almost didn’t buy them, but I needed some and they were very inexpensive.  I had to imagine how they would fit with thick socks.  I was proud of myself, as typically, I wait to buy winter things after the first frost and I can’t stand to be cold anymore.  At that time, I have to pay a premium, of course.  Right now, some jackets are on sale, either as last years models, or simply because no one is thinking about them yet.

What I do notice is that they tend to short change women on both motorcycle jackets and winter coats. They often don’t have the same insulation as the men’s jackets do. It was explained to me once that the maker thought women wanted less bulk so they could appear more fashionable. Well, when the wind really howls, I really don’t care how skinny I look. The one maker that I had luck with was North Face. They have some coats that have all sorts of protection against wind and water. Of course, you don’t want to dunk yourself in a river, but when the wind blows the snow, you inevitably get wet.

The Salathe jacket, at left, would be a good dog walking jacket.  It is not too bulky and looks easy to take on and off.  You need that when you come in the house with dogs in hand and want to take off the winter gear quickly to get near the hot chocolate.
