The Dog Shampoo That Puts Skunks on Notice
Is your best friend itching, scratching, or just plain smelly? No, I am not talking about your pal Steve who gave Charlie Brown’s pal Pig Pen a run for his money. Of course, I mean your dog.
I previously wrote about my excitement in finally finding Dogosuds®, a dog shampoo that actually seems to deliver. (In fact, I have some on order so stay tuned for before and after bathtub antics.) I have really liked using an oatmeal shampoo in the past. It didn’t irritate my dog’s sensitive skin, which was the whole point, as my little guy was itchy beyond belief. Sometimes it is best when something merely does no harm. Unfortunately, I found myself looking for shampoos to rotate with it. The shampoo didn’t offer anything in the way of being a flea deterrent or taking care of odors. Of course, when your dog is always a bit too fragrant, it could be his/her diet or another medical condition. I am talking about the stink factor from encountering all sorts of interesting objects and bits of mud outside. If your dog is hit by a skunk, or rolls in rotting foliage, which seems to be the preference of my dog, the oatmeal doesn’t do much. There are home remedies such as tomato juice, but I find that has never worked for me.I was pleased to discover that Dogosuds® does a lot in the way of neutralizing the odor and oils from a skunk attack. No, I do not want to test this by provoking a skunk. I will take their word for it, as anything that can eliminate the rotting stinky sticky mushroom odor probably makes a skunk smell like a country lane on a summer morn. Well, maybe that is a bad analogy because a country lane on a summer morn can make your allergies come alive.

Above: Dogosuds in big, medium, little, big medium little…you get the idea!
Dinovite makes and sells the shampoo online. If you are on a budget, it makes sense to buy the largest tube available. If you buy the 8 ounce size, it works out to only $1.18 per ounce, versus $1.49 for the 2 ounce size. However, the really nice thing is that they offer sizes as small as 2 ounces, so you can try it without making a big commitment. Another idea is to buy the small ones for “stocking stuffers,” and to use in gift baskets for new dog owners. I think its a great idea to give to friends and families who have dogs in a little care package.I will follow up soon with before and after photos of my own little Sir Stinksalot. I just wish there was such a thing as scratch n sniff for the computer so I can really share the results.
