Better Than Milk Crates
Okay, I have a confession to make. I was once kind of furniture poor. There were offers from friends to give me sofas and love seats, but none of them would fit up the stairs. In a walk up apartment with a sharp bend before you entered the door, it just was not feasible. The box spring cracked on the way up after getting stuck. It had to be forced, as it could not move back down or come through the door. I am now not ashamed to admit that my sofa was outdoor patio furniture! I am not talking about plastic adirondack chairs. This had cushions and a metal frame. I never had a problem with the arms being too big, and therefore, it sat more rear ends than a sofa that size. It was severely lacking when you tried to rest your pillow on the arm, however.
Everyone changed their mind on the chic factor when the throw blanket was removed from the cushions. Underneath, there was a loud floral fabric. It was green in some spots, and yellow in others, depending on how it faded. Luckily, outdoor patio furniture is now made with the idea that you are going to have it for quite awhile. Neutral colors are available, and the styles are a little less Gilligan’s Island or Romper Room and a bit more “outdoor living room.”
Many of you may not be in the mood to think about patios right now. Take it from me: They make great parlor furniture for when you are in a tight squeeze. When you move to a larger abode or purchase a home, they can move to the patio or screened porch. Something like the love seat, at left, could even go in a bedroom. Maybe you think I am a bit daft for talking about outdoor patio furniture for the home. It tends to be more dog resistant, for one. I am not talking about tears, but the soak fabric gets from someone licking their paws on it. It is definitely a little more sightly than milk crates and planks when you live in a small space, as well.
What do you think? Do you think I have officially cracked?
