The Five in Five List for Monday 1/14

January 14th, 2008 User Imagehoundsgood Posted in Five In Five, volunteering No Comments »

It’s the start of another week, and time to dive head first into making a difference.

Here is a list of suggestions if you only have five minutes to volunteer or to spare. (The more than five minute list will come later) In addition, here are some things to keep in mind this week.

1) Help find a Home for Bud

Read his story here. Post a link to his page on forums, email it to your friends who are looking for a dog, or email it to your favorite rescue.

He is a 35 lb sweetheart who has a sad beginning, but is looking for a happy ending. He is seeking a home without cats, or a spot in rescue. Please spread the word! Currently located in Alabama, but a little bit of travel to surrounding states may be able to be arranged if Bud’s soulmate lives just a little outside there.

2) Vote for Delly. Time it takes: A few seconds. If you need to sign up for myspace: 5 minutes.

I normally am not a beauty pageant person, but this Miss MySpace contestant is worth doing something you normally don’t. Adele Tyrala, aka Delly Doolittle, is a different kind of contestant.

She believes in Beauty without Cruelty and that young women don’t have to be half naked to be beautiful. She is a volunteers for the animals. In addition, she wants to show that not all vegetarians are sickly and are quite healthy. She wishes to be voted for on the merit of her work for good causes.

Delly was voted Miss Myspace in June 2007, and this is a January run off featuring the 12 winners from last year. Wouldn’t it make a great statement for a young woman who volunteers for causes that matter to her, and is a good role model to win on the merits of who she is rather than what she wars? You can vote once a day for her.
Click the photo at left to vote. You have to be logged into myspace to do so. Registration is free if you don’t have a profile. Or ask your friends and family to vote!

The Animal Rescue Site3) Click to Feed. Time it takes: Seconds. (or a split second if you are fast!)

You may have heard of the Animal Rescue Site. Its where you can go and “click” to feed homeless pets. How does this work? There are sponsors on the page and the number of clicks are divided up and the sponsors are billed for the food.

Cool, huh?

The Literacy Site4) Click to READ!

The Literacy Site works on the same principle as the Animal Rescue site, but instead it funds the purchase of age apropriate books for educational programs and schools that serve low income children.

5) Call your or email your local cat sanctuary or rescue and inquire as to whether they accept donations of newspapers for bedding. Some rescues use shredded paper for kitten or cat bedding. It may not be what you would use at home for your cat, but it is much appreciated by felines who don’t have a home yet. Then, save your newspapers for the next two weeks and deliver them yourself. Look up your local rescue or sanctuary in the phone book, on petfinder, or do an internet search. Time it takes: just a few minutes (I am counting making contact, not the taking the papers there)…unless you strike up a long conversation!

Did you do all that?
Stay tuned for future “Five in Five” lists. (and the “MORE” than 5 list)
