Heard County Animal Control is a small county pound in Franklin, Georgia.   It contains eight dog runs with indoor/outdoor access, and therefore it has a small capacity for holding animals.   The shelter typically euthanizes on Fridays, beginning at 4:00 P.M.  However, dogs and cats can be euthanized any time after the three day holding period if the shelter is full, and at any time due to illness.

Rescue requirements:
A current copy of a rescues 501(3)c or Dept. of Agriculture License must be on file, or one must be faxed in. If license on file is expired, you might not be allowed to pull the dog/cat.

Adopter requirements:
Appear in person to meet the animal and pay the applicable adoption/spay and neuter fee. Or, you may send funds by Western Union. You must call the shelter with a confirmation number, but also call the shelter ahead of time to discuss your intentions

Paying with Western Union: Funds can be paid online. Select the Money in Minutes option.

Additional Policies:

Strays - Stray dogs and cats are held for three days.  If the animal has no id or microchip, the dog or cat can be euthanized at that time.

Owner Turn Ins - Owner turn ins are eligible for adoption immediately.  They are eligible for euthanization immediately, unfortunately, because they do not need to give the chance for an owner to find them.

Adoptions: Adopters are required to pay in full for the dog or cat’s spay/neuter, rabies, microchip, and adoption fee prior to retrieving the animal. Special cases may be made, such as for underage puppies, but proof of spay/neuter must be returned in the allotted amount of time. Funds can be wired in through Western Union. Please call the shelter before doing so to obtain the name of the person on duty to put the payment in attention of. You will be required to call the shelter as soon as the Western Union goes through in order to give them the confirmation/tracking number.

THERE ARE OVER 38 DOGS IN NEED THIS WEEK.  IT WILL BE A MAJOR EUTHANIZATION DAY IF HELP DOESN’T ARRIVE.  IF YOU CAN JUST HELP ONE, WE CAN DO THIS TOGETHER.  IF YOU TAKE ONE, CONSIDER TAKING A BUDDY ALONG.

Awaiting confirmation, but sadly we believe that she didn’t make it. Look at that sweet whiskering nose. . This girl was suffering from a bad photo.   Now, she has one that really shows off her sweet face.  She will be euthanized on Friday at 4:00, the first dog to go down because she was held over last week.   She is 40-45, and has a little skin allergy it seems.  They don’t think its mange at all.  Her id 50009,  She was labelled Aussie Shepherd mix, but I don’t really know what she is.  http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=14195877

Awaiting confirmation, but sadly we believe that she didn’t make it.SUPER CRITICAL TIME UP!!!!!!!!  BREED MISIDENTIFIED SO EXTRA CRITICAL. ID 57309 This sweet gal with the fluffy tail who is only about 35-40 was labelled a Rottweiler because of her black and tan coloring.  Do you see Rottweiler anywhere in there???  I see maybe some spaniel or shepherd or a dash of hound.  She may not make it because some people cannot have Rotties in their area so pass her up on petfinder without even looking, or assume she is big.

Today was heartbreaking because there were at least 30 dogs and cats have been euthanized today. There were a couple that have been spared, but we only have a few days to find them a place before they will be euthanize. This dog is only 30 lbs and is thought to be a Spitz mix. He is 1-2 years old, and the Dog id number is 56809. If you are looking for a “not to big, not to small” dog, look no further.

This dog is the shelter favorite. He is a very sweet Labrador Retriever. He has a little something else in him, too. He is about a year, to a year and a half old. He weighs about 50 lbs. If you are looking for a walking companion, or a family dog, look no further than him. His id number is 53209.

This boxer guy has just a smidgen of something else in him, but his attitude is all boxer. He is silly, wiggles a lot, and is very sweet. He is a year to two years old. His id number is 56109. When you call, use that id number.

All of these dogs only have a few more days.

A commitment is needed between now and close of business monday.
